Trott warns sledging will backfire on Proteas players

London, Oct 27 (ANI): England batsman Jonathan Trott has warned South Africa that sledging him will backfire on their players.

The right-handed batsman returns to the country of his birth this winter following his incredible debut in the final Ashes Test.

Trott struck a sublime second innings century at the Oval as England regained the little urn from Australia, The Sun reports.

Trott, part of Test and limited overs squads, faces South Africa in two Twenty20s, five ODIs and four Tests.

But if fans and opponents try to unsettle him by raising the question of his heritage, they have another thing coming.

"I'll probably get a bit of abuse from the spectators but it's fun! I don't really mind and you can't change it. Just being English, you get abuse wherever you go. It doesn't really worry me, in fact it probably makes me more determined. If people have a go at me it, makes me want to annoy them more," Trott said.

"That's the way I deal with it, it makes me stronger and more determined. In fact, if they don't chirp you and they say nothing when you walk out, it can bring more pressure.

"It means they are expecting you to get runs. If they chirp you, it's more of a battle and it gets the juices going. South Africa's mentality is probably going to be to overlook me first and try to wear me out and then see if they can get me out that way," he added.

Trott, who previously played for South Africa Under-19s before pursuing a career with England, claims local knowledge could prove invaluable on tour. (ANI)
