Tushar upset Vishal, Kannan concedes defeat as heat takes it toll

New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI) Chandigarh's Tushar Liberhan stunned fancied Vishal Punna while seventh seed Vijay, along with two others, withdrew from the contest due to oppresive heat on the opening day of the 10,000 dollar ITF Futures tennis tournament here today.

Wild card entrant Tushar hogged the limelight as he ousted Punna in a well-contested match 6-3, 7-6 (7).

Vijay Kannan, who was trailing to Britain's Robert Searle 6-7(6), 1-1 conceded the tie due to upset stomach.

Kannan and Searle found it tough to concentrate on the game under the hot sun and eventually it was the Indian who gave up.

Uzbekistan's Sarvar Ikramov also conceded his tie against Aditya Madkekar, who led 7-6 (4).

Chinese Taipei's Dai-Chiao Lin was the third victim of the heat and opted out of the final qualifying round, enabling Gursharan Singh to make it to the main draw.
