Two-year jail term hangs over Blackburn striker El-Hadji Diouf

By Super Admin

London, Mar. 9 (ANI): Blackburn striker El-Hadji Diouf may have to spend two years in jail if he gets convicted for beating a woman in a late-night casino brawl.

He was charged with wounding with intent when he appeared in court in Senegal last Friday.

Diouf received a three-month suspended prison term when found guilty of a similar charge in 2006.

The recent alleged incident happened at 6 am on June 28 last year at the Casino du Cap Vert at coastal Almadies, the Daily Express reports.

Local woman Khady Sy told police Diouf had beaten her up in a brawl in the casino, with another man Cheik Sadibou Boye - a professional wrestler who heads up Diouf's security team - also allegedly involved.

Sy produced a doctor's certificate stating she was too badly injured to work for 20 days.

Meanwhile, his club Blackburn confirmed they had given Diouf permission to travel to Senegal to attend a benefit concert for the Haiti earthquake victims at the personal request of the president of the country.

In 2006, Diouf escaped jail when he attacked Aicha Ba, ex-wife of his former international and club team-mate Khalilou Fadiga.

In 2003, he pleaded guilty to assault in the UK after being accused of spitting at Celtic fans in 2003. (ANI)
