UFC 214: Cormier Vs Jones 2 results, July 29

We witnessed two new champs and one title defence in UFC 214, the highlight of the night was an incredible return for Jon Jones who regained the title he never lost.

Bengaluru, July 30: Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned this weekend with the UFC 214: "Cormier vs. Jones 2" pay-per-view (PPV) fight card, which was held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday (July 29).

We winessed the two best fighters in the light heavyweight division ever, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, collided for the championship in the main event of the pay-per-view.

Jones with a head kick knocked out the champion Cormier to announce an incredible return to the UFC and winning the bout via knock out at 3 minutes 1 second was crowned the new UFC light heavyweight champion.

The stacked main card also featured two more championship bouts, the welterweight championship match between Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia in the co-main event, and the women's featherweights Cris Cyborg and Tonya Evinger will battle for the vacant UFC featherweight title.

Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley defended his world title for the third time tonight against Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia in a boring and cagey fight with boos ringing around the arena.

In the women's championship bout, Cris Cyborg the greatest female (145 pounds) figher on the planet for the past decade knocked out Tonya Evinger and won via a technical knock out (TKO) to be crowned the new undisputed UFC women's featherweight champion.

The pay-per-view kicked off as Volkan Oezdemir knocked out third ranked Jimi Manuwa with strong left hands at 22 seconds of the first round in a light heavyweight bout which takes him closer to a title fight.

The result leaves Manuwa's title chances in tatters while Oezdemir may have just become the most exciting fighter in the light heavyweight division.

On his comeback, former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler picked up a unanimous decision victory against Donald Cerrone as he outlasted a tough and challenging contest in the three rounds to earn points across the board.

The night's preliminary card kicked off with a first round knock out as Drew Dober left Josh Burkman laying down cold with a overhand left and picked up the victory at 3 minutes 4 seconds in a lightweight bout.

A flyweight battle between Jared Brooks and Eric Shelton followed that, as Brooks picked up a split decision win.

Next up was the women's strawweight bout, Alexandra Albu earned points across the board to gain a unanimous decision win against Kailin Curran. In a catchweight bout Alijamain Sterling defeated Renan Barao via unanimous decision.

In the other featherweight bouts of the night, Calvin Kattar defeated Andre Fili by earning points across the board, and Brian Ortega trapped Renato Moicano in a guillotine choke to earn a submission victory at 2 minutes 59 seconds of round 3.

To conclude the preliminary card, Ricardo Lamas knocked out Jason Knight with huge strikes and a huge right hand that floored Knight, an unforgiving Lamas followed it with strikes on the ground till referee stopped the bout to earn a technical knock out victory at 4 minutes 34 seconds of round 1.
