Vancouver, June 11: The GOAT Amanda Nunes pulled the curtains down on her career after successfully defending the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship in UFC 289: Nunes vs. Aldana which took place at the sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday (June 10).
Canadians were treated to a line up of incredible fights and made it a clean sweep with all representatives winning their matches. Riding an emotional high to then end, the co-main and main events did not disappoint.

The main card middleweight bout between Marc-Andre Barriault and Eryk Anders was awarded the Fight of the Night, while co-main eventer Charles Oliveira as well as Mike Malott and Stephen Erceg pocketed an extra USD50K as Performance of the Night bonuses.
In the main event, the UFC #1 women's pound-for-pound and women's featherweight and bantamweight champion Nunes made it all one way traffic in her title defense against No. 5 ranked contender Irene Aldana.
There was no quit in Aldana and the fight went all five rounds, but Nunes showed her greatness in landing takedowns at will and racking up continuous damage with her striking. When the unanimous decision was announced, Nunes made a shocking announcement: her decision to retire from the sport.
Following the bout, Nunes said, "Double champ forever! Tonight is the perfect night to retire. My mom has been asking me to do this for so long. I decided right now that I'm still young enough to enjoy everything that I made. I'm from a small city in Brazil, and I made it all the way here, to become a champion."
In the co-main event, former UFC lightweight champion Oliveira once again went into a fight as the underdog in his match up with highly skilled Beneil Dariush.
After trying to prove his grappling skills, Oliveira went back to his bread and butter striking and with a beautiful combination of head kick and successive right hands, he dropped and finished Dariush on the canvas in the first round.
With the TKO victory setting him up for renewed title aspirations, Oliveira said, "The champion's name is Charles Oliveira! I needed to send a message. Last time you saw 10% of me.
"This time you saw 120% of me. Dana, I'm ready. This hand is heavy and I'm always ready. I don't care what people say. I know what I can do and that what I'm going to keep doing."
