UFC 303: ‘You Don’t Need Pinkie Toe To Fight’ – Makachev Takes Dig at Conor McGregor’s Injury Update Post

The UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makachev took a swipe at Conor McGregor after the Irishman revealed a toe injury led to the cancellation of his scheduled main event bout against Michael Chandler in UFC 303.

McGregor's withdrawal saw UFC president Dana White announce Alex Perez vs Jiri Prochazka 2 as the replacement headliner. But there was no real reason given for the McGregor vs Chandler fight.

Reports later circulated that McGregor has injured the same foot he fractured during his last outing in the Octagon against Dustin Poirier. However, the former double champ took to social media to reveal that an injury to his little toe forced him out of the fight.

In a now deleted post on X, McGregor had responded to former middleweight champion and hall of famer Chael Sonnen, who had claimed the Irishman was faking the injury. McGregor posted pictures of his injured toe, but later deleted that post.

Taking a dig at the former featherweight and lightweight champion, the current king of the 155-pound division, Makachev called McGregor a "chicken" for pulling out of the fight.

"You don't need a pinkie toe for a fight lol. Chicken," Makachev posted on X before another post aimed at Chandler, "And my condolences to Michael 'Hachiko' Chandler."

While McGregor's post with pictures of his injury was deleted, the Irishman posted a detailed update on Instagram about his withdrawal from the fight as he revealed the training the injury.

"Man we were so fucking super ready for this fight it is absolutely gut wrenching to take. I want that new Bugatti how I gone justify to myself getting that now without banking these fights," McGregor posted on Instagram.

"We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean. It needs a few weeks that's it."

"I couldn't justify to my team, or fans, that I make the walk hindered again. That walk has been seen. This next walk has got to be, and it will be, 100% Conor McGregor. The fans deserve it and we are getting close," McGregor further added.

"A slight lapse in concentration and a nuisance of an injury was picked up. That's it. Take the lesson and move forward. I will get this back. I've got too. I've got two fights left on my contract.

"I've got Bugattis and more yachts on my mind. I'm coming to shine. I gotta just take my time. Cos I still got yachts and Bentleys and mansions and all the rest. Ya know yaself. But ya get me, I'll be back. See ya's soon. See ya at the top. Chandler or not."
