On the night, 5 of 12 fights, including the main event, ended in stoppage, while 7 fights went the distance. Among the 5 stoppage wins, 4 were either KO or TKO, and 1 was a submission finish. Here is the recap from UFC 309:

UFC 309 Recap

UFC heavyweight champion Jones came back to the Octagon in incredible fashion and showed a well-timed, brilliant performance over Miocic. Ultimately, the finish came in the third round when Jones landed a spinning a back kick to the midsection that crumpled Miocic to the canvas.

After the title defence, UFC heavyweight champion Jones said, "He's really tough. He's really durable. I was hitting him with some pretty decent shots, and he just kept coming forward. It was like fighting against the Terminator. It's very discouraging to hit somebody that's not reacting to it.

"But that body shot... no matter how tough you are, it delivers the liver. Our plan was to try to attack the body a little bit more. I was hoping to get him out in the first round, but he hung in there.

"I decided that maybe I will not retire, and that I have some I have some conversations to have with Daytona and Hunter, and we have some negotiating to do. And if everything goes right, maybe we'll give you guys what you want to see."

In the co-main event, former UFC lightweight champion Oliveira proved that he remains a force in the division by dominating Chandler in both the stand up and ground fighting exchanges.

Oliveira landed near knockdowns and threatened with multiple submissions, but Chandler held on all the way through the end of the fourth round. Chandler finally found his moment in the last round by capitalizing in a scramble and raining down ground and pound, showing true grit against Oliveira.

Following the win, Oliveira said, "Thank you for all the love. You know, my wins have always been for my daughter, but also now I have a son, Dominic. This win is for Dominic. This guy's one of the toughest guys have ever fought. This guy deserves to be here. This guy's got all my respect."

"Whatever is next in line for the (lightweight title), I'll be right there in the first row, wherever it is," Oliveira added, highlighting his ambition to be up there challenging for the title in the lightweight division.

Also on the main card, Bo Nickal, Viviane Araújo and Mauricio Ruffy claimed decision wins after Marcus McGhee, David Onama and Eduarda Moura did the same on the preliminary and early preliminary card, which saw four fights end in stoppages.

Elliott knocked out Bassil Hafez in the third round of a welterweight bout before Brahimaj stopped Mickey Gall in the first round of another welterweight bout with both the welterweight victors earning performance of the night bonuses for their respective stoppages.

Plus, a doctor's stoppage in the second round saw Marcin Tybura beat Jhonata Diniz in a heavyweight bout. Jim Miller choked out Damon Jackson in a lightweight bout for the only submission win in the event. Here is a look at the full results of UFC 309:
