UFC 314 Results: Volkanovski outpoints Lopes for featherweight title; Sumudaerji rebounds with split decision

The Ultimate Fighting Championship staged it's fourth numbered event of 2025 where a new champions was crowned in the headliner of UFC 314: Volkanovski vs. Lopes event, which took place in front of a sold out Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Saturday (April 12).

Former champion Alexander Volkanovski dominated Diego Lopes in the five-round main event to reclaim the featherweight gold which was vacated by Ilia Topuria, who has now moved to the lightweight division.

Also, Paddy Pimblett secured a crucial win in the lightweight division as UFC 314’s collection of $11.5 million USD made the Octagon’s visit to the venue record the top three highest grossing events of all time at the Kaseya Center, with a sold out attendance of 18,287 audience.

On a night that saw 8 of 13 fights end in stoppages, 5 bouts, including the headliner, went the distance. Among the 8 stoppages, two were submissions and 6 were either KO or TKO as four fighters took home bonuses worth USD50K. Here is a look at the awards followed by the recap:

UFC 314 Recap

In the UFC 314 main event, Volkanovski turned in a vintage performance against Lopes in a fantastic five-round fight for the vacant UFC featherweight championship. Volkanovski came out strong in the early rounds, and Lopes hung in to rally in the fourth, making it a nail-biting contest all the way to the end.

All three judges scored the fight for Volkanovski who becomes the second man to hold the UFC featherweight title twice (tied with Jose Aldo) and the first competitor over age 35 to win a title fight in the lighter weight classes.

After the title triumph, Volkanovski said, "I was saying all week, even to the camera before I walked out, I said, "I promised my girls I'd bring the belt back to them. But, look, it doesn't matter about bringing the belt back.

"I think the message was that a lot of people counted me out, coming off two knockout losses, the 35-year old curse. I'm 36-years old, I had a long break... and I came back and beat a gun like Diego Lopez. It's good to be back! Adversity is a privilege. You hear people talk about that all the time. It truly is. This moment is incredible."

In the co-main event, Pimblett impressively dominated Michael Chandler, out-striking and out-grappling him in the biggest victory of his professional career. Pimblett was the more effective of the two in the opening round, landing the better strikes while Chandler looked to grapple.

In the second, Pimblett controlled things on the mat as well. In the third, Pimblett landed a flying knee, continued attacking Chandler, and ultimately got the TKO finish.

With his victory likely catapulting him into the top ten rankings, Pimblett said, "Everything we have worked on - all the fight run throughs - that's just what happened there. This is how we win: we game plan, we use our fight IQ, and we beat everyone!

"Got any questions? I want that world title. You all laughed, said that I'll never be champ, I'll never get ranked, I'll never be in the top 10. But what now, you gang of mushrooms?! I want Dustin (Poirier), Justin (Gaethje), Charles (Oliveira) or the little posh boy, Armand (Tsarukyan). Any of them four... or all of them."

Also on the main card, Yair Rodriguez dominated Patricio Pitbull to earn the judges approval after a three-round featherweight bout after Jean Silva and Dominick Reyes claimed stoppage wins over Bryce Mitchell and Nikita Krylov in their respective featherweight and light heavyweight bouts.

As for Asian representatives, Sumudaerji finally got back on track with a win over Mitch Raposo. The Tibetan Eagle was conservative in his approach, although he controlled the center of the Octagon and prevented Raposo from capitalizing on any takedowns.

The fight went to the scorecards, and two out of three judges gave the win to Sumudaerji, who said, "I want to say big thanks for the young guys in the Fight Club who look after me, and I will be your (role model).

"I had a three-fight win streak when I first entered the UFC, but I had a bad knee injury and a few losses. Big shout out to Team Alpha Male and Enbo Fight Club, especially big shout out to my wife.

"She married me when I was in a very low stage in my life. I come from a striking background. Uriah (Faber) and Danny (Castillo) help me a lot with wrestling and jiu jitsu, so I know how to stand back up now."

Yan Xiaonan went toe-to-toe with Virna Jandiroba in a three-round war. Yan's striking was impressive from the opening bell, but as the fight wore on, Jandiroba was able to take her down and work for submissions right up to the final bell.

It's likely that Jandiroba takes Yan's #1 strawweight ranking and has set herself up for a title challenge against UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili. Here is a look at the final results of UFC 314:
