UFC: Daniel Cormier issues statement on Instagram

Daniel Cormier took to instagram to congratulate his opponent Jones and apologize to referee John McCarthy.

Bengaluru, July 31: In the UFC 214, we witnessed one of the most incredible comebacks, as Jon Jones knocked out Daniel Cormier with a stunning head kick to regain the light heavyweight title he never lost.

Cormier, still feeling the effects of a knockout loss against his nemesis Jones, didn't take the defeat well initially as he broke out in the Octagon interview.

However, to react like that after losing to a rival and title challenger with a mic shoved in his face immediately post-defeat was expected.

DC took to Instagram to issue a bona fide statement following only his second loss in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

This is what his Instagram post said, "First off, thank you all for the kind words. I have felt the support."

"Congratulations to Jon Jones and his team. They did a phenomenal job and got the victory."

He also added, "Also, to Big John McCarthy, I would like to apologize for acting up with you. I am thankful for the time you gave me to try and defend myself and stay in the fight. You are the best in the business for a reason."

Daniel's apology to referee John McCarthy arises from the fact that an upset Cormier could be seen trying to signal something at the longtime official opposing about the stoppage, before thrusting him away when McCarthy was about to announce the winner.

"I also wanna thank my team and my coaches. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Your time and energy is greatly appreciated. You guys did a wonderful job, I was ready," Cormier said on his team.

Cormier lauded the company, "It's a fist fight and things happen. Dana White and the UFC, thank you for being the premiere organization in all of MMA."

"Again, congrats to Team Jones and JacksonWink. Love you all. I'll see you soon. DC," the post cocluded.

"DC's" comments show he is a true champion, as some former champions aren't quite so gracious in defeat, and proves that he wasn't in his right state of mind a few seconds after getting knocked out, dismissing any notions that the former Olympian is a bad sport.

Furthermore, it seems the former Light Heavyweight champion is far from done in the fight game.

Cormier earned a $1 million for his rematch against Jones which was the event's highest. And though it's highly unlikely he'll ever get to face "Bones" again, but there are still lot of mouth-watering match-ups awaiting him in the Octagon.
