UFC Fight Night 125 results: Machida edges out Anders in Brazil

In the main event, former UFC champion Machida dug deep and gutted out a split-decision with scores of 48-47 and 49-46 going in his favour against a previously undefeated Anders.

Belem, February 4: Lyoto Machida edges out Eryk Anders in his first fight at hometown in UFC Fight Night 125: Machida vs. Anders at Mangueirinho Gymnasium in Belem, Para, Brazil on Saturday (February 3).

In the main event of UFC Fight Night 125, former UFC champion Machida dug deep and gutted out a split-decision with scores of 48-47 and 49-46 going in his favour against a previously undefeated Anders who earned a score of 48-47 his way in a middleweight bout.

In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko announced herself as an immediate contender at flyweight, after she scored a brutal beatdown of UFC newcomer Priscila Cachoeira to pick up a submission (RNC) win in the second round.

With that win, the former bantamweight title challenger Shevchenko seems primed for a shot at the flyweight crown.

To open the main card, Thiago "Marreta" Santos registered his fourth consecutive win, after he stopped Anthony Smith in a Middleweight thriller with a liver kick to earn a second round technical knockout (TKO).

Followed that was a trio of decision victories for Douglas de Andrade (bantamweight), Timothy Johnson (heavyweight) and Michel Prazeres (lightweight) against tough opponents in Marlon Vera, Marcelo Golm and Desmond Green respectivley.

The event kicked off with three stoppages and two decisions in the preliminary card with Deiveson Figueiredo (Flyweight) and Iuri Alcantara (Bantamweight) earning technical knock outs against Joseph Morales and Joe Soto respectively.

While, Polyana Viana made Maia Stevenson tap out via rear-naked choke (RNC) in the first round of a Women's Strawweight bout. Later on the card, Alan Patrick outworked Damir Hadzovic to pick up a unanimous decision in a lightweight bout.

In the main event of the preliminary card Sergio Moares slightly edged out fellow welterweight Tim Means to earn a split decision with couple of scores of 29-28 in the three round bout.
