A blockbuster middleweight match up in the main event saw former champion and No. 2 ranked Adesanya return in style with a fight that was his to lose against rising No. 5 ranked contender Imavov.
The first round saw the men evenly matched, throwing toe-to-toe, clinch fighting, and looking for trips. The stunner came at the opening of round two when Imavov launched a right hand that stumbled the former champion backwards, and followed it up with a left uppercut to crumple him.
With a significant and resounding win over Adesanya, Imavov said, "I feel so good. I was in the perfect shape. I proved I was the better striker, and now the real bonus for me is that I'm going to be able to fight for the belt. I promised you a special surprise that was the surprise.
"My confidence comes from my family, my brother, my team. If you want (to know my) one secret, just surround yourself with people that love you, that you love, and you're gonna grow up this way.
"I dedicate this victory to my brother, because he's always been alongside me all the way. I think there is no doubt I'm worth the belt: four victories in one year, two top five (opponents), two top 10, two finishes, the record sparks for itself! Assalamualaikum!"
In the co-main event, Shara "Bullet" Magomedov put his undefeated record on the line against Michael "Venom" Page who came up a division to meet him at middleweight.
A blistering back-and-forth striking battle ensued between the elite kickboxers. MVP's eccentric bladed body position and darting movement edged him two rounds over Magomedov, who realized it and dug deep for a comeback in the third. It wasn't quite enough though, as after the multitude of action was tallied up by the judges, Page handed Bullet his first loss.
With the decision victory, MVP said, "Big up Saudi Arabia, thank you for having me here. You guys are extremely welcoming, and I hope you would love to have me back. But everybody. Look at me. Look at me. I am the captain now!
"Firstly, Shara Bullet is an amazing, amazing MMA fighter. Regardless of this result, he's gonna do some amazing things. One thing I knew, coming up (in weight), my body's not going to be used to this, so I need to practice a bit more at this weight. But for now, all you 170 (-pound) guys, make sure you're watching, because I'm coming!"
Also on the main card, lightweights Fares Ziam and Mike Davis kicked things off with a competitive and entertaining tussle, each man spilling crimson on the Octagon canvas before bantamweight prospect Oliveira continued his ascent up the divisional ranks with a victory over Nurmagomedov.
Sergei Pavlovich returned to winning ways after the Russian scored a decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the heavyweight battle that rounded off the main card action before the preliminary card closed with another fight that went the distance as Muhammad Naimov saw off Kaan Ofli.
The preliminary card also saw Shamil Gaziev, Terrance McKinney and Bogdan Grad claim knockout wins, while Hamdy Abdelwahab scripted history as the first Egyptian to win in the UFC after a decision win. Here is a look at the final results of UFC Fight Night 250:
