UFC Vegas 69 results and recap: Blanchfield surges up rankings with submission win over Andrade

The third fight night event of 2023 saw six of 11 fights end in stoppages as four fighters took home an extra USD50K as bonuses following their display on the card.

Las Vegas, February 19: Erin Blanchfield climbed up the rankings after stoppage win over Jessica Andrade in the main event of UFC Vegas 69: Andrade vs. Blanchfield at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas on Saturday (February 18).

The third fight night event of 2023 saw six of 11 fights end in stoppages as four fighters took home an extra USD50K as bonuses following their display on the card.

Among the six stoppages on the UFC Fight Night 219 card, four were submissions, while one was a highlight reel Knockout and one was a doctor's stoppage. Five of the six stoppages were on the preliminary card.

Main eventer Blanchfield and Mayra Bueno Silva, who fought on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 69, were awarded performance of the night bonuses as the lightweight bout between Nazim Sadykhov and Evan Elder was decided as the fight of the night.

Former strawweight champion and No. 3 ranked flyweight Jessica Andrade stepped in on short notice to give N0. 10 ranked Erin Blanchfield the fight of her life.

Blanchfield rose to the occasion with a competitive first round, then announced herself as a new contender in the division with a stunning rear naked submission of Andrade early in the second.

Following the win, Blanchfield said, "She hits really hard, but I got that clinch and I knew I could side trip from there so I took it. I'm glad I have the experience, I don't want to get hit as much next time."

Blancfield also revealed who she would like to face next as she aims for the title, "Give me the winner of Shevchenko versus Grasso next. I'm going to win the title and be the UFC champion."

Co-main Event: Pauga dominates Wright

Co-main Event: Pauga dominates Wright

The co-main event between exciting light heavyweight up and comers Jordan Wright and Zac Pauga was tense. It was a back and forth grueling three rounds, with Pauga's cage wrestling control earning him the decision on the scorecards.

After the decision win, Pauga said, "It feels amazing, just to get on the board. Now I'll start racking them up. I started with throwing elbows, that's why I'm called 'Jack the Ripper', now I'm just learning how to punch. I need wins, but I want finishes. That's the next step of my career."

A two-time Dana White's Contender Series winner who dealt with difficult life circumstances outside of the cage, Jamal Pogues outworked Josh Parisian over the course of three rounds to score a decision win in a heavyweight bout.

Also, Marcin Prachnio dominated William Knight in a light heavyweight bout to earn a decision win after Alexander Hernandez did the same to Jim Miller in the lightweight bout that opened the main card.

Nazim Sadykhov and Evan Elder delivered as the pair were locked in an intense battle in the opening 10 minutes of a lightweight bout scheduled to close the prelims. But an early kick in third-round from Sadykhov that opened a cut over Elder's eye, prompted the doctors to call off the fight.

Also, Mayra Bueno Silva made it three wins in a row after she claimed a second-round submission win over the veteran Lina Lansberg in the women's bantamweight bout before Jamall Emmers earned a decision win over Khusein Askhabov in a featherweight bout.

Philipe Lins delivered a statement with a highlight reel first-round finish of veteran Ovince Saint Preux in a light heavyweight bout after AJ Fletcher submitted Themba Gorimbo in a welterweight bout.

The UFC Vegas 69 event opener saw Clayton Carpenter claim a first-round submission win over Juancamilo Ronderos in a flyweight bout.
