Lightweight Matchup and Thrilling Bouts set for UFC Vegas 79 in September

UFC returns to the UFC APEX for an electrifying lightweight matchup between Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot in UFC Vegas 79: Fiziev vs. Gamrot. Also featured on the card is a thrilling featherweight bout between Bryce Mitchell and Dan Ige.

Mark your calendars for UFC Vegas 79: Fiziev vs. Gamrot, happening on Saturday, September 23 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The entire event will be available for streaming on ESPN+ in both English and Spanish, with the main card starting at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT. The prelims kick off at 4 PM ET / 1 PM PT.

In his second UFC main event, Fiziev (12-2) aims to deliver yet another awe-inspiring performance. Known for his exciting fighting style, he has earned a post-fight bonus in each of his last six fights, including impressive victories over Rafael Dos Anjos, Brad Riddell, and Renato Moicano. Fiziev's goal is to break into the Top 5 by being the first fighter to defeat Gamrot.

Gamrot (22-2) from Poznan, Poland intends to prove himself as a title contender by dominating his match against Fiziev. With multiple grappling championships under his belt, Gamrot has showcased his ground skills with notable wins over Jeremy Stephens, Arman Tsarukyan, and Diego Ferreira. He aims to make a statement that propels him to the top of the highly competitive lightweight division.

Returning after a hiatus in 2023 is fan favorite Mitchell (15-2). Hailing from Searcy, Arkansas, he seeks another signature submission victory as he steps back into action for the first time this year.

Mitchell is known for executing one of only two 'twister' submissions in UFC history and has displayed exceptional grappling abilities in wins against Edson Barboza, Charles Rosa, and Bobby Moffett. With a win over Ige, Mitchell sets his sights on climbing back into the featherweight Top 10.

Ige (17-6) fights out of Las Vegas and aims to maintain an undefeated record in 2023 as he enters his third bout of the year. A well-rounded competitor, he has notable victories over Damon Jackson, Gavin Tucker, and Edson Barboza. Ige's goal is to continue building momentum by adding a win over Mitchell to his already impressive resume.

-The Ultimate Fighter season 30 heavyweight winner Mohammed Usman (10 -2 ) from Nigeria goes head-to-head with Jake Collier (13 -9 ) representing Cuba Missouri.

-Bryan Battle(10 -2 ) winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 29 middleweight seeks another highlight reel knockout when he meets AJ Fletcher(10 -2 ), fighting out of Lafayette Louisiana.

-Aliaskhab Khizriev(14 -0 ) boasting an undefeated record represents Dagestan, Russia as he faces Jacob Malkoun(7 -2 ) from Sydney, Australia.

-Dan Argueta (9-1 1NC) fighting out of Albuquerque by way of Orland Park, Illinois clashes with Miles Johns (13-2) representing Kansas City in an action-packed bantamweight bout.

-Ricardo Ramos (16-4) from Sao Paulo, Brazil matches up against Charles Jourdain (14-6-1), fighting out of Beloeil, Quebec Canada in an exhilarating featherweight contest.

-Montserrat Rendon (5-0) makes her UFC debut aiming to impress as she takes on Tamires Vidal(7 -1 ), fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a bantamweight clash.
