New Delhi, Mar 15: Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) has expanded its franchise roster by introducing the Ahmedabad SG Pipers as the new team, representing the vibrant city of Ahmedabad.
The Ahmedabad SG Pipers are owned by SG Sports and Entertainment Private Limited, an arm of the APL Apollo Group. Indian Tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi, who's appointed their CEO, thus forays into the world of table tennis with this venture.

Promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani under the auspices of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the franchise-based league continues to evolve with SGSE, a strategic entity of the APL Apollo Group, joining after the success of the fourth edition last July.
"We are thrilled to welcome SGSE and the APL Apollo Group to the UTT family. With the remarkable achievements of Indian table tennis stars globally and the growing popularity of UTT among players and fans, the league has strengthened over the years. UTT remains committed to promoting table tennis, and this expansion marks an exciting phase in the league's growth as it extends the game to a new region," said UTT co-promoters Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani in a joint statement.
With the legendary Mahesh Bhupathi, a multiple Grand Slam champion, appointed as their CEO, SG Sports and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. is dedicated to nurturing sporting talent in the country. Having already been involved in chess and tennis leagues, the company aims to contribute to the growth of Indian table tennis through its association with UTT.

Ahmedabad SG Pipers will join Jaipur Patriots, who joined UTT in August 2023. Both franchises will make their debut in the upcoming season, adding to the league's competitiveness. Bengaluru Smashers, Chennai Lions, Dabang Delhi TTC, Goa Challengers, Puneri Paltan Table Tennis, and U Mumba TT complete the eight-team lineup.
Launched in 2017 to revolutionise table tennis in India, UTT attracts the world's top paddlers to the country, offering an unmatched experience for players and fans alike. The league has witnessed Indian players achieving significant victories and carrying their confidence onto the international stage.
The historic qualification of India's men's and women's teams for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games is a testament to the sport's growth in the country, marking their first qualification since the event's inclusion in the 2008 Olympics based on world team rankings.
