Ummer Ahmad From Jammu And Kashmir Pursues Kho Kho World Cup Glory Amidst Challenges

Jammu and Kashmir player Ummer Ahmad is dedicated to representing India in the upcoming Kho Kho World Cup. Despite financial challenges, he trains rigorously, supported by the Kho Kho Federation of India.

Ummer Ahmad Rather, a dedicated Kho Kho player from Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has been passionate about the sport since class VI. He is now aiming to secure a spot in the Indian men's team for the upcoming Kho Kho World Cup. Despite harsh weather conditions, Ummer remains committed to his rigorous training schedule.

"I'm really excited for the World Cup. It's a great opportunity for all of us and our aim is to get gold for the country. It's a proud moment for all of us that there will be a Kho Kho World Cup happening in India giving the sport global recognition. It’s a matter of pride that more than 20 countries will be participating in the event," he expressed.

Ummer Ahmad Aims for Kho Kho World Cup

Coming from a modest background, Ummer faces financial challenges but remains determined to achieve his dream. "Me and my father work as laborers. Despite the hardships, my final aim is to represent the country in the World Cup and that keeps me going," he shared.

Ummer appreciates the support from the Kho Kho Association of Jammu & Kashmir and the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI). "I'm really thankful to the Kho Kho Association of Jammu & Kashmir and Kho Kho Federation of India for supporting us and giving us a platform to play Kho Kho professionally. We have been getting a lot of guidance about our fitness regime, nutrition and diet," he acknowledged.

Under coach Bilal Ahmed Bhagat's guidance, Ummer is part of a training camp at JLN Stadium in New Delhi. He praised this initiative as it allows players to improve their skills. "Coaches in camp are very good. Moreover, there are a lot of players from different states and we get to learn a lot from each other including new skills and cultural habits," he concluded.

The inaugural Kho Kho World Cup will take place in New Delhi from 13-19 January 2025, with over 20 countries participating.

Kho Kho Federation of India

The KKFI oversees national-level competitions for men, women, and juniors annually. Shri Sudhanshu Mittal serves as its President. The Ultimate Kho Kho league, an Indian franchise-based competition, is organised yearly alongside KKFI.

The determination shown by players like Ummer highlights their dedication despite facing numerous obstacles. With support from organisations like KKFI, athletes continue striving towards their goals on international platforms.
