University of Mumbai lift men''s title

Mumbai, Jan 16 (PTI) Hosts Mumbai University won the INKInfrastructure All India Inter-University men''s hockeychampionship, defeating Kurukshetra 2-1 in the final at theMHA-Mahindra Stadium here today.

All the goals in the match were scored from the field andMumbai could afford even a missed penalty stroke by theirprolific scorer and captain Yuvraj Walmiki on their way to thetitle triumph.

The goal scorers for Mumbai were Dharmendra Antil, whorestored parity in the 26th minute off a pass from the left byWalmiki, and Pradeep Kumar who notched the match-winner twominutes from the end.

For the losers, Malak Singh scored in the 2nd minute togive an early lead before the Mumbai boys fought backbrilliantly to surge to the title.

In the match to decide the third place, Madras Universitydefeated Guru Nanak Dev University from Amritsar 2-1.

The tournament was organised and conducted by MMKCollege, Bandra.
