UP and Orrisa to clash for title

Lucknow, Feb 1 (UNI) Defending champions Uttar Pradesh and Orrisa will clash for the title of the 19th All India K D Singh Babu Sub Junior Invitation Hockey Championship here tomorrow.

In the semi finals held today at the Dhyan Chand stadium, UP (Blue) was ousted by Orrisa 3-0 and UP pipped in Cheema Academy Punjab 1-0.

Prior to finals UP (Blue) will play against Cheema Academy for the third place.

In the first semi final, Orrisa took the lead in the 14th minute of the play, when Arun Dung Dung scored the lone goal of the first half.

In the second half, Orrisa got a penalty corner. when UP's defender committed a foul in front of the goal post and umpire had no hesitation in awarding penalty corner to Orrisa on which Ashok Lakra's hit sounded the board (2-0), while in the last minutes of the game, Sudhir Kumar further consolidated the lead 3-0 six minutes before the final whistle.

In the other semi final, UP and Punjab teams clashed in a hard fought encounter for entering into the final of the tournament, but luck favoured the UP team in the 28th minute of the first half in shape of a goal scored by Syed Mphd Zaheer, while the second half witnessed a goalless battle.

Between both the semi finals, the veteran hockey stars (men) of UP in the exhbition matches beat women teams of Sports hostel and SAI at 2-1 and 3-1 respectively.
