UP Red, Chhattisgarh register wins

Lucknow, Jan 25 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Red and Chhattisgarh maintained their winning spree in the second round matches of the K D Singh Babu Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament here on day two.

Hyderabad, which registered their first win over Nagaland yesterday, failed to repeat their performance today against West Bengal at the Dhyan Chand Stadium.

UP Red after registering huge victory by 27-0 over Gujarat yesterday, proved too hard for Orissa beating them 15-0.

Skipper Sandeep, like previous day, displayed good stick work scoring 4 individual goals. Bhagawan Das also hitted four goals.

West Bengal, which had lost their first encounter against Chhattisgarh, today beat Hyderabad 3-1 after leading 1-0 till breather.

In the second half Hardeep, who was insturmental in scoring the first goal for Bengal, increased the tally 2-0, but Pavan Kumar of Hyderabad reduced the margin by one goal in the 54th minute. Anuj Kesari hit the final goal of the tie for Bengal making the score 3-1.

The match between Chhattisgarh and Nagaland was well balanced till lemon break, both teams remained goalless during the 30 minutes times.

In the second half, Chhattisgarh mounted pressure over Nagaland.

The strategy gave good results, when they scored five goals in a row winning the match 5-0. Nagaland's lost their both the matches of the tournament so far.
