UP to develop sports city to encourage international events

Lucknow, June 29(UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government will set up an ambitious ' Sport City' in the state to encourage international and national sports activities.

''The new sports city will be announced by chief minister Mayawati within a month'',said state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh here.

Addressing the media after budgetary proposals for 2007-08 presented by Ms Mayawati in the assembly , Mr Singh said the new sports city will be developed on a public-private participation (PPP) model. International level stadia and other sports facilities would be developed at the city.

He said the the sports city will enable the young talents tobe groomed for competing in the national and international events.

Meanwhile, in the budgetary proposals, the state government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for three three new sports project while the annual budget of the sports department has been hiked by 50 per cent.
