US gold medallist Riddick convicted of bank fraud

NEW YORK, May 11 (Reuters) Steven Riddick, a US Olympic gold medallist, and co-defendant Nathaniel Alexander, were found guilty of participating in a bank fraud scheme to cash 5 million dollars of counterfeit checks.

A jury convicted Alexander and Riddick, who won the gold medal in the 4x100 metres relay at the 1976 Games in Montreal, on all counts, the US Attorney's office said yesterday.

Former US Olympic sprinter Tim Montgomery pleaded guilty last month to charges related to a 5 million dollars fraud and money-laundering scheme.

Riddick was Montgomery's track coach.
