Steve Kerr, head coach of the United States basketball team, anticipates a challenging quarter-final match against Brazil in the Olympic Games on Monday. The USA secured their spot in the knockout round as the top seed after an unbeaten group stage, culminating in a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday.
Brazil, considered underdogs in this competition, managed to advance to the last eight through a tiebreaker and impressive 3-point shooting that helped them defeat Japan in a crucial game. Despite being on the opposite side of the draw from strong teams like Canada, France, and Germany, Kerr remains cautious.

"They're very physical. I think they're the number one offensive rebounding team in the tournament," Kerr stated. "They've got a lot of really good shooters, and they just play hard. They compete play after play, so we'll have to be ready for their physicality and their shooting, and we need to be on edge and ready for them because they're not going to back down."
In their first three games, Brazil had six players averaging eight points or more per game while also averaging 13 offensive rebounds per match. This highlights their strength in offensive rebounding, which could pose a challenge for the USA.
The USA team has already conceded 16 more offensive rebounds than they have secured themselves. This is one of the few areas where they have shown vulnerability as they aim for a fifth consecutive gold medal.
Kerr used an athletic metaphor to describe his team's journey: "In the spirit of the Olympics and the marathon/sprint metaphor that I've used, now that we've been through it, I would call it the 800 meters. We're running really hard, but it's not the 100 meters."
The upcoming game against Brazil will determine who advances to face either Serbia or Australia in the semi-finals. The USA must prepare thoroughly to counter Brazil's physicality and shooting prowess if they hope to continue their quest for gold.
The stakes are high as both teams vie for a place in the semi-finals. The USA must stay focused and address their rebounding issues to maintain their winning streak.
