Uttarakhand shocks J
Chandigarh, June 15 (UNI) Unpretentious Uttrakhand shocked last year's runners-up Jammu and Kashmir by a comfortable margin of 19-8 points in the quarter-final match of the eighth Sub-Junior Under-17 National Korfball Championship being played at the Punjab University Campus here today.
Uttarakhand is considered dark horse of the tournament as they systematically demolished runners-up Jammu and Kashir. They played as a well-knit team. Bhannai was their leading scorer with fourpoints, Shailja contributed two points.
For Jammu and Kashmir Parminder and Vishal got two points each to reduce the margin.
Defending champions Haryana outclassed West Bengal by 25-3 margin. Haryana's attack revolved around Dev (8), Anuj (5) and Rounak (4), who were their leading scorers in another quarter-final match.
Hosts Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh also advanced to the semi-final. Egged on by the home crowd, Chandigarh beated Andhra Pradesh by 12-4. Chandigarh's Anil and Satoshi contributed three points each.
Himachal Pradesh snatched the most exciting victory as they defeated Uttar Pradesh by 12-10 points. Sumit (3), Seema (3) and Gaurav (2) engineered Himachal's win.
Gaurav was the top scorer with five points for Uttar Pradesh.

Uttrankhand (Bhannari 4, Shailja 2, Shalini 1, Surbhi 1, John 1) bt J-K ( Parminder 2, Vishal 2, Niharika 1, Arjun 1, Renu Joy 1, Deepanti 1) by 19-8.
Haryana (Dev 8, Anju 5, Ronauk 4, Aditya 2, Puneet 2, Anuj 1, Arun 1, Deepika 2) bt West Bengal (Sunita 2, Anita 1) by 25-3.
Chandigarh (Anil 3, Satoshi 3, Ramandeep 2, Mona 2, Pooja 1, Dilbag 1) bt Andhra Pradesh (Bramhiya 1, Bhavaya 1, Martin 1, Supriya 1) by 12-4.
