Uttrakhand snatch point from West Bengal, Assam bt Goa

Chandigarh, Sep 27 (UNI) Formidable Assam outclassed Goan by handing them a 4-0 drubbing while Uttrakhand snatched a point from West Bengal in the group A quarter-final matches of the 31st Sub-Junior National Football Championship-2008 for Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy in Mahilpur here today.

In the Assam-Goa fixture, after initial probing, Assam opened their account in the 15th minute through Jiren Roy who scored a fine goal. Assam kept on their pressure and Swapanjit doubled the margin. They fired another goal in the 29the minute through Holicharan.

Being in total command, Assam took things lightly but still they netted yet another goal. This time Hitler caught the Goan defence napping with a brilliant goal in the 84th minute.

In the other Group A quarter-final league West Bengal dropped a point to Uttrakhand as the teams played a one-all draw.

West Bengal were leading by a goal scored by goal in the half time.

The goal was result of a defensive lapse on the part of Uttrakhand goalkeeper as Biswajit Patra pounced on the drop ball to score in the 17th minute.

Uttrakhand capitalized on a similar lapse by the Bengal custodian to neutralised the score through Vishal in the 80th minute. With this the teams split points.
