Van Nistelrooy heaps praise on Guti after Bernabeu double

By Staff

MADRID, May 7 (Reuters) Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has credited team mate Guti for helping him take over at the top of the Spanish scoring charts after his double in a 3-2 win over Sevilla Yesterday.

''Guti was brilliant,'' the Dutchman told reporters. ''It's a dream playing alongside him and he showed what a quality player he is out there.

''I know he can pass well because I see it in training everyday, but the first pass he gave me was perfect. I've got to thank him for the passes he gave me and the rest of the team. He is incredible.'' Real trailed Sevilla 1-0 at halftime after Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca cracked a magnificently struck volley into the net from the edge of the area, but the game was turned on its head when Guti came on 15 minutes into the second half.

The Real playmaker set up Van Nistelrooy to score the equaliser when he threaded the ball through the Sevilla defence and repeated the trick for Brazilian striker to make it 2-1.

Guti also started the move that allowed the Dutchman to score Real's third and overtake Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute and Real Zaragoza's Diego Milito as the top scorer in the Primera Liga with 20 goals.

''This is one of the best things that a footballer can experience,'' Guti told reporters as the Bernabeu chanted his name at the end of the game.

''It isn't often that the passes work out so well, but that's the great thing about football. The person who supplies the pass is just as important as the one who puts it in the net. Everyone has their part to play.'' The win meant that Real leapfrogged Sevilla to take second place, two points behind leaders Barcelona with five games left to play.

''Before this game we had two teams in front of us, now we only have one,'' said Guti. ''Now we have to go to keep battling away and hope that Barcelona slip up.'' REUTERS AKD RK2007
