Vasco edge out SBT 2-1, top the table
Duler, Mar 12 (UNI) A goal in the dying moments by Agnelo D'Souza guided local Vasco Sports Club to a 2-1 win over State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Kerala today and has assured themselves a place in the final phase of the ONGC 2nd Division National Football League championship.
Vasco, with this win, registered their third victory in row after losing to Chirag United, Kolkata. They have increased their points tally to nine and have moved to the top of the table. SBT has remained on the same four points with one win, a draw and two losses.
The Kerala team started on full steam and shot into the lead as early as in the sixth minute through Akbaraj Anthony. Stung by the early goal, Vasco accelerated the pace of their game and levelled in the 35th minute through Keke Ibrahim. At half time, both the teams were locked 1-1.
After the change-over, both the teams made some desperate attempts for the match-winner. Vasco scored the winning goal in the 89th minute through Agnelo D'Souza to make it 2-1 and gained full three points.
Vasco will play their last match against Punjab Police on March 15.
