Velsao holds Vasco, MPT edges out Raia by 1-0

Margao, Aug 20 (UNI) Velsao Pale came from behind to hold Vasco Sports Club to a 3-3 draw and shared points in the ongoing Hutch-GFA Professional Football League championship match being played at Nehru stadium Fatorda here today.

Vasco started with full steam and scored two quick goals in the seventh minute through Joy Ferrao and Caitan Costa in the 9th minute. Ferrao scored his second goal in the 30th minute to make it 3-0 in favour of Vasco.

After this, Velsao Pale took over and never looked behind and reduced the margin in 33rd minute through Mariano Cruz. Carlos Fernades made it 3-2 in the 42nd minute. Inspired by two goals, Velsao continued the attack and equalised in the 82nd minute through Donald Rocha to make it 3-3 draw.

With this drawn match, Velsao Pale increased their lead to 5 points, while Vasco took their points tally to 2 points from as many matches.

In another match, played at Tilak ground in Vasco de Gama, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) edged out Raia Sporting 1-0 and gained full points.

The all-important goal for MPT came through Wilfred Gomes.

With this win, MPT have increased their points tally to 4, while Raia Sporting are yet to open their account, as it was their fourth consecutive defeat in a row.
