Vera Zvonareva confirms participation in Bangalore Open

Bangalore, Feb 26 (UNI) Russia's world No 21, Vera Zvonareva, has confirmed her participation in the US 600,000 dollars WTA Tier-II Bangalore Open to be played here from March 3 to 9.

Vera, having lost the final in three sets at Doha last week to Maria Sharapova, has decided to take a break before heading to Bangalore, according to KSLTA sources here.

In her confirmation communication she said, ''It's been a great week for me in Doha. Of course, I wish I could do better in the finals, but I still have lots of things to work on. But no matter what, I'm glad I was improving with every match and it was great to make a final in the first event after I was injured in Australia. I will spend a couple of days in Moscow to relax and get ready for Bangalore.'' She said she was excited about coming to India, especially since she had never played here. ''I like to discover new places and I will try to play my best out there,'' said Zvonareva.

Although Vera is relatively a young player on the tour, she has already won a WTA title and is surely going to stay on top of the fight to obtain more trophies and points. She has won five WTA Tour singles titles, four WTA Tour doubles titles and two ITF Women's Circuit singles titles.

Her first grand Slam quarter final came at the 2003 French Open, defeating Venus Williams in the fourth round. Of her five singles titles, two have been at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis, Tennessee.

She won women's doubles in the US Open in 2006 partnering Nathalie Dechy of France. She also won the mixed doubles title in the US Open in 2004 and the 2006 Wimbledon mixed doubles with Andy Ram of Israel 6-2, 6-3 against Bob Bryan and Venus Williams.
