Max Verstappen narrowly missed a double victory at the Miami Grand Prix. Lando Norris, driving for McLaren, won a chaotic sprint race but qualified second to Verstappen. Norris returned to Miami, where he had previously secured his first Formula One win by overtaking Verstappen from fifth on the grid last year.
The Miami International Autodrome experienced rain showers that delayed the start of the sprint race. Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli began from pole position, becoming the youngest in F1 history to do so. Despite this, Norris emerged victorious in the shortened 16-lap race. A crash involving Fernando Alonso brought out the safety car, which worked in Norris's favour.

Norris took the lead when his teammate Oscar Piastri pitted at lap 14's end. The safety car's introduction forced Piastri to slow down, allowing Norris to maintain his lead even after his pit stop. This win reduced Piastri's championship lead over Norris to nine points before Sunday's main event.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finished third after switching to slick tyres just as conditions improved. Alex Albon was initially fourth but received a five-second penalty for speeding behind the safety car. This penalty promoted George Russell of Mercedes to fourth and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll to fifth place.
Liam Lawson and Oliver Bearman also faced penalties, dropping them out of seventh and eighth positions. Antonelli ended up seventh after colliding with Verstappen. Verstappen did not score any sprint points due to a 10-second penalty after an incident with Antonelli in the pit lane.
Despite setbacks in the sprint race, Verstappen excelled in qualifying by securing pole position by just 0.065 seconds ahead of Norris. Using an upgraded floor for the first time, he claimed his third pole of the season after starting at the front in Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Norris made a mistake at Turn 17 during his final lap, causing his car to become unsettled over the kerb. Despite this error, he remained two places ahead of teammate Piastri. Antonelli managed to qualify between the two McLarens, finishing just 0.002 seconds behind Norris.
The top ten qualifiers were as follows: Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Lando Norris (McLaren), Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), George Russell (Mercedes), Carlos Sainz (Williams), Alex Albon (Williams), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Esteban Ocon (Haas), and Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull).
