Max Verstappen has addressed how social media exaggerated his rivalry with Lando Norris during their championship battle this season. Despite being long-time friends since their karting days, the two faced off in the Formula One drivers' championship for the first time in 2024. Verstappen secured his fourth world title, clinching it with two races remaining after a remarkable victory in Sao Paulo and finishing ahead of Norris in Las Vegas.

Verstappen expressed that social media often distorts reality, making situations appear worse than they are. He stated on Red Bull's podcast, Talking Bull, "People always make it really a lot worse on social media. There are a lot of idiots on that platform that always have something to say, something to complain about." He emphasised that while there are positive voices online, ignoring negativity is crucial.

Despite some tense moments on track, including collisions in Austria and controversial incidents in Austin and Mexico City, Verstappen insisted their friendship remained intact. He explained that competing for the World Championship naturally leads to such tensions but maintained that off-track relationships shouldn't be affected. "Lando and I, we got on very well," he said.

Rain delayed qualifying sessions, and Lance Stroll's crash further complicated matters.
