Victor Wembanyama Eyes NBA MVP As 41-Point Masterclass Fuels Spurs Push

Victor Wembanyama moved further into the NBA MVP conversation after scoring 41 points against the Golden State Warriors, then openly stating how much the award matters. The San Antonio Spurs star delivered another dominant display in a 127-113 victory, with Golden State again missing Stephen Curry through injury, as Wembanyama combined huge scoring with control at both ends.

The 22-year-old matched his previous outing with a second straight 41-point game and added 18 rebounds, underlining a strong case for the league’s top individual prize. Wembanyama is seen as a leading MVP contender alongside Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and the forward accepted that personal recognition is a serious goal this season.

Victor Wembanyama eyes NBA MVP push

Speaking to ESPN after the Warriors win, Wembanyama explained how closely the MVP chase links to long-term ambitions. Wembanyama said: "I do care deeply about it. I think that the greats that are in the Hall of Fameor the best of all timehave fought and grabbed everything they could grab early on in their career. If I want to make my spot among the greats, I've got tonot miss any occasion to put my name up there."

That performance gave Wembanyama a fourth 40-point game of the campaign, as the forward shot 16 of 22 from the field and protected the rim with three blocks. The showing extended San Antonio’s winning streak to 10 games and highlighted how central Wembanyama is to both the Spurs’ success and the NBA MVP debate.

The Spurs moved to 58-18 with the victory, continuing a strong late-season run. San Antonio have taken 15 of the last 16 games and remain in pursuit of the 60-16 Oklahoma City Thunder for first place in the Western Conference, maintaining pressure near the top of the standings during a decisive stretch.

Wembanyama’s recent statistics further strengthen arguments for MVP voters. Over the last 15 games, Wembanyama has combined heavy scoring, rebounding, shot blocking and three-point shooting, while San Antonio have gone unbeaten during that span, underlining both individual production and team impact during a key period.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr admitted there were few answers as Wembanyama controlled the contest on Wednesday. Kerr said: "He's got unbelievable confidence now. He looks like he knows exactly what to do on both ends. In his first couple of years, he looked young at times. He doesn't look young any more. He just looks like he knows exactly what he's doing. He dominated the glass. There are plays where you can't do anything. Several lobs where it looked like a Nerf hoop. He's brilliant."

San Antonio’s schedule keeps the pressure on Wembanyama and the Spurs as the regular season closes. The Spurs face the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday before another road test against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, with every result likely to influence Western Conference seeding and shape the NBA MVP debate surrounding Wembanyama.
