Victoria Azarenka wins Aus open women's single title

Melbourne, Jan 28: Belarusian tennis ace Victoria Azarenka won the Australian Open women's singles title on Saturday, Jan 28 as she thrashed Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-0 to register her first grand slam crown.

The 22-year-old, Belarussian made a good start from the first set to last set against former world number one sharapova to set an impressive victory and will now take over the world No1 ranking from Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki.

Azarenka, seeded 3, has clashed with Sharapova for six times and defeated her thrice, while both have two wins apiece on hardcourts. Moreover, the Russian Seeded 4, Sharapova won three Grand Slams while it is a maiden Grand Slam final for Azarenka.

Meanwhile, World number two Rafael Nadal is set to clash against Serbia's Novak Djokovic on Sunday, Jan 29 for Australian Open Men's title in Melbourne.
