New Delhi, Sep 10: Vijender Singh wrote history by becoming the first Indian to grab a spot in the semi finals at the World Boxing Championship and in turn securing the country's maiden medal.
The Indian pugilist defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko of Ukraine 12-4 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Sep 9.
"It turned out to be an easy one for me. I was leading from the very start and I am happy to have scripted another history for India," the Olympic bronze medalist said.
The 23-year-old who was awarded the Khel Ratna recently, is world number 2. He has also been given the top seeding in Milan.
