Vikram Kamath, Madhuri Gurnule post doubles

Pune, May 4: Sprinter Vikram Kamath of Mumbai and international long distance ace Madhuri Gurnule of Nagpur finished in a blaze of glory posting a double each in the men's and women's sections respectively in the two-day state athletic trial meet of the Maharashtra Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA) which concluded here today.

Kamath monopolized the 100 and 200 sprint events and completed a sprint double. Kamath breezed past the race clocking 10.7 seconds to capture the gold in the 100 meters pushing back the spirited opposition of teammate Ramnaresh Yadav and Ashwin Shetty of Pune who had to remain content with the second and third place.

Kamath won the 200 sprint in a time of 21.7 seconds despite a threat from Faizan Khan of Mumbai and Ashwin Shetty of Pune who finished second and third.

International Gurnule bagged both the 5,000 and the 10,000-metre events rather comfortably and recorded a fine double win. The Nagpur lass took 18:25:4 for the 5,000 meters run, getting the better of her city mate Anuja Bejaare who clocked 19:20:3. She went on to win the demanding 10,000 meters event clocking 37:33:1 while Bejagare was second with a time of 40:25:6.

The meet was the basis of selection of the Maharashtra squad to take part in the 13th Federation Cup national athletic championship to be held at Kolkata from May 10 to 13.
