VJ Edgecombe Trust In Teammates Drives 76ers Win Over Celtics

VJ Edgecombe delivered a standout performance as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, tying their Eastern Conference first-round series 1-1 at TD Garden. The rookie guard produced a 30-point, 10-rebound display in Boston, which drove Philadelphia to a vital road win in the NBA playoffs.

The 20-year-old became the first rookie to post at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in a play-off game since Tim Duncan achieved the feat in May 1998. Edgecombe also set another mark, becoming the youngest player with a 30-point, 10-rebound game in the postseason, passing Magic Johnson’s previous record.

While Edgecombe took many headlines, Tyrese Maxey added crucial support for the Philadelphia 76ers with 29 points and nine assists. Forward Paul George supplied 19 points and focused on Edgecombe afterward, highlighting how the rookie has performed through his debut campaign and within this play-off setting against the Boston Celtics.

George stressed that Edgecombe’s impact with the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA playoffs reflected form built from opening night at TD Garden. George recalled Edgecombe’s first NBA game in the same building and pointed to how the guard has maintained that standard across the regular season and into this series with the Boston Celtics.

Edgecombe shot efficiently from long range, making six of 10 three-point attempts, and explained that the Philadelphia 76ers’ ball movement against the Boston Celtics helped create open looks. Edgecombe stressed that the trust shared among team-mates shaped both the shot selection and the confidence to keep attacking the defence during the NBA playoffs meeting.

"I'm going to be honest, I think we all knew where the shots were going to come from," Edgecombe said. "We knew where we were going to get the shots from, where the help was going to be at. So just credit my teammates for just, we kept trusting each other. Everyone can make a play on the court, so we kept trusting each other and I was in the spot and they wanted me to shoot the ball. It wouldn't have been right if I didn't shoot the ball, so I had to shoot the ball, hit wide-open shots and try to get my teammates assists."

George underlined that the Philadelphia 76ers have seen sustained quality from Edgecombe rather than a single burst against the Boston Celtics. "I mean, [Edgecombe has] been impressive all season long," said George, who added 19 points. "When you think about it, how he started his first NBA game here in this building, and I'm sure he was in a small percentage, or a small group of players that did what he did on opening night. Then to put a whole season together and get to this point where he's showcasing who he is and his abilities. I've been saying it all year long: He's far surpassed being a rookie."

The result leaves the Eastern Conference first-round clash between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics finely balanced at 1-1 heading into Game 3. Edgecombe’s historic numbers, backed by strong outings from Maxey and George, show Philadelphia entering the next contest with confidence built on shared trust and efficient perimeter shooting.
