Wadekar favours Indian coaches

Hyderabad, Jun 2 (UNI) Former team India captain and coach Ajit Wadekar today favoured an Indian coach to take over the reins, citing the dismal performance of the team in the recent World Cup.

The most successful Indian coach, who was on a private visit to the ''Pearl City'', speaking to newspersons at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here said, ''India is a vast country with different languages and cultures. It is very difficult for foreigners to understand and extract good performance from our cricketers.'' Mr Wadekar said, ''We have good coaches like Sandeep Patil who did well with Kenya and Indian junior sides, and Jimmy Amarnath and Gundappa Vishwanath, who brought glamour to Indian batting with copybook shots and innovative strokes. They are not inferior to any foreigner,'' adding, ''With Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble in the ranks, I was surprised to see India not getting good results for the last one year. We don't need to adopt Aussie style of training methods. We need to develop our own methods of excercises and fitness programme.
