The 27-year-old was greeted by his father on his arrival, who hugged him and put a garland around his neck. Nadeem was also showered with petals as patriotic slogans were also raised.

High-profile politicians, and dignitaries also lined up to meet and extend their congratulations to Pakistan's first Olympic gold-medallist in 40 years. Further, a grand reception featuring Punjab Police band, a historic VVIP protocol was rolled out for Arshad Nadeem of Mian Channu, who was struggling to secure a new javelin to participate in the competitions earlier this year. Over 150 officers and personnel ensured and an elite convoy honoured the son of soil.

A victory parade in a double-decker bus was also organised. Nadeem looked extremely composed and humble despite the magnanimity of the humongous reception. He smiled and kept on greeting the fans by waving his hand.

India's Neeraj Chopra made history on late Thursday night by becoming the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two consecutive Olympic medals. After making his season best throw of 89.45 meters in the qualification round, the 26-year-old made improvements with an 89.34 meters throw in his second attempt in the final, and won silver.

However, Arshad Nadeem's new Olympics record throw of 92.97 in his second attempt could not be breached despite six attempts each made by all top eight finalists.
