Waugh names India, Australia and South Africa as favourites

Kolkata, Feb 14 (PTI) Former Australia captain SteveWaugh today put his money on India, Australia, South Africaand Sri Lanka to emerge triumphant in the upcoming World Cup.

Speaking at a function in the city today, Waugh evensuggested that two-time winners West Indies also have anoutside chance.

Talking about the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side''sprospects, Waugh said, "India had a good start at the practicematches against our country. And this should boost theirmorale before the mega event."

Waugh had a piece of advice for the Indian skipper.

"Dhoni should not think too far initially and concentrateon each game as it comes, and play cricket as you play," hesaid.

Turning to criticisms in certain quarters about thenature of tracks being prepared in India for the tournament,Waugh said "the pitches may be slower or take turn, but theteams have required experience to play on these turfs."

To a question whether he thinks Sachin Tendulkar, whowill be appearing in his sixth World Cup, deserves to be partof a winning side, Waugh said "every player turning up inthe World Cup has the desire to win the Cup".

About the weaknesses in the present Indian team andwhat would be his advice, Waugh had this to say: "Every teamhas certain weaknesses, and there are captains and coaches todeal with those matters." PTI COR SUS AH
