We lost an opportunity lost to prove ourselves: Bashar
Chittagong, May 15 (UNI) Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar considers the washaway today as a lost opportunity to prove that his side's World Cup feat against India was not a fluke.
''We are down two nothing. But today it could have been different. I take this as an opportunity lost,'' he told reporters after the last ODI of the series was called off due to rain.
''I am disappointed that the last match was a nonstarter,'' he said.
Asked about the gains from the tournament, he said, ''The biggest thing was in both the matches we had our chances. We were able to push India hard. We lost but we take heart from this. There are some exciting prospects too.'' On his side's chances in coming Test series, he said, ''We will start with the memories of our last Test against Australia. It will be after 13 months but we hope to do well in the Tests.'' He also hoped that Mohammed Ashrafful will be fully fit before the Tests.
''All of us need to score well in the Tests. It has to be a team effort. I am happy to have got some runs myself and hope to do well in the Tests.'' However, the Bangladeshi skipper rejected claims about inconsistent show by his top order batsmen saying, ''This series the top order scored runs and hopefully they will continue the good work in the Tests also.''
