San Antonio Spurs' point guard Chris Paul has expressed his admiration for Victor Wembanyama, who is sidelined for the rest of the NBA season due to a medical condition. Wembanyama, diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, will be unable to play as he undergoes treatment with blood-thinning medication. This condition was identified after his return from the NBA All-Star game.
"It's tough," said Chris Paul. "Tough more than anything, I think for all of us, knowing how much he means to our team, but more so knowing how much he means to the game and how much he loves to play." The Spurs are optimistic about Wembanyama's full recovery by the 2025-26 season's start. They have committed to providing updates on his health status as necessary.

The Spurs currently hold the 12th position in the Western Conference standings with a record of 24-29. They trail by six games for the final Play-In qualification spot. After their recent victory over the Phoenix Suns with a score of 120-109, they are set to face the Detroit Pistons at Moody Center on Friday.
Paul highlighted that basketball is just one aspect of life. "I think everybody understands that basketball is what we do and not who we are," he stated. He acknowledged that losing a key player like Wembanyama requires collective effort from the team. "And trust me, you can't replace Vic," Paul added.
Wembanyama's absence impacts not only his performance on court but also his presence in the locker room. Paul emphasized that beyond his skills, Wembanyama's charisma and influence within the team will be greatly missed. "Aside from his basketball ability, his charisma and what he brings into the locker room I think is what we'll miss the most," Paul noted.
The Spurs remain hopeful about their future prospects despite this setback. They aim to continue competing strongly in upcoming games while supporting Wembanyama through his recovery journey.
