Wembley pitch can destroy England players World Cup dream

London, May 24 (ANI): England football players have been warned about the bad state of the Wembley pitch which can destroy their 2010 World Cup dream.

Blackpool player Gary Taylor-Fletcher blamed the turf for forcing him off with an injury in their 3-2 win over Cardiff.

England face Mexico at the stadium tonight just two days after the Blackpool-Cardiff play-off.

He warned Rio Ferdinand and his team that they will be treading a World Cup tightrope tonight.

"They must be careful. One slip and it could all be over for them. I'm another victim of the famous Wembley pitch. I went over twice on my ankle and the second time was enough to put me out of the game," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Taylor-Fletcher used three pairs of boots before limping off.

"After 10 minutes my studs got caught. in the ground. I changed my boots to a smaller stud and was slipping everywhere. I changed again at half-time and the same thing has happened. The studs got caught in the ground, I went over and that was the end of it," he said.

England skipper Ferdinand joined in the debate by saying the stadium should not be used for non-soccer events.

He said: "If there's things going on there that make it a bad pitch to play on, a decision must be made. We've just got to deal with it." (ANI)
