West Indies face Lankans tomorrow in must-win Super 8 match
Gorgetown, Guyana, Mar 31 (UNI) Host West Indies takes on former champions Sri Lanka in a must win Super Eight league match at the Guyana National Stadium here tomorrow, in order to keep alive any realistic chance of making it to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
After two back to back drubbing at the hand of much stronger Australia and clinical New Zealand, West Indies hope lies on tomorrow's match, as later in the other half of the tournament in Grenada and Barbados, they have to fight it out with other stronger oppositions of the cup.
Interestingly, so far in the tournament, the West Indies have not shown anything convincing which could inspire the cricket-crazy Caribbean people to throng the stadium.
The way West Indies tamely surrendered before the Kiwis and Australia, proves the lack of inspiration in their cricket, but skipper Brian Lara himself does not believe so.
''Yes we have two bad games but everything is not lost yet. We are going to bounce back soon,'' a confident Lara told newspersons after their practice session today.
But considering the depth of his bowling attack, doubts still looms large over the success of this team.
''It was always going to be a luxury to lose your first two matches in the Super Eights but we didn't want to do that first up.
Now we are down to the fighting part of the tournament. There are four games left and we need to win them all if we are to qualify,'' said the West Indian skipper who is playing his last World Cup.
