When and Where will the Next Commonwealth Games take place? Date, Venue Revealed

India signed off from the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow with an impressive fourth-place finish in the medal standings, collecting 39 medals comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.

Competing in a significantly reduced Games programme that featured just 10 sports, the Indian contingent once again showcased its depth across athletics, boxing, judo, weightlifting, para sports and other disciplines.

The campaign was highlighted by several breakthrough performances from emerging stars, while experienced campaigners also delivered under pressure. Gold medals in boxing, judo and para events, along with consistent podium finishes in athletics and weightlifting, underlined the country's growing strength across multiple disciplines.

One of the defining features of India's campaign was the success of athletes returning from serious injuries. Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar claimed silver in his first major international event after recovering from a career-threatening knee injury, while several young athletes announced themselves on the Commonwealth stage with podium finishes.

The Glasgow edition also marked a new chapter for the Commonwealth Games. Organised under a streamlined and cost-effective model after Australia withdrew as host, the Games featured fewer sports but maintained a high level of competition, demonstrating a sustainable blueprint for future editions.

Where and When will be the next Commonwealth Games?

With Glasgow now concluded, the baton officially passes to India. The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be held in Amdavad (Ahmedabad), Gujarat, marking the centenary edition of the multi-sport event and the second time India will host the Games after New Delhi in 2010.

Commonwealth Games 2030 Date and Venue

Ahmedabad will host the event in four years' time. Although the dates are not yet confirmed, the games will take place in October-November.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Complex in Ahmedabad will host the majority of the events. Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad may also host a few. In Gandhinagar, the Mahatma Mandir and IIT Gandhinagar sports facilities may also host a few of the games' disciplines. Table Tennis may be hosted in Vadodara at the Sama Indoor Sports Complex if it is reinstated in the games.

During the closing ceremony in Glasgow, India formally accepted hosting responsibilities, with the Commonwealth Games flag handed over to the Indian delegation. The 2030 Games are expected to feature 15 to 17 sports, with the final programme to be confirmed by Commonwealth Sport. In 2010, when Delhi hosted the games, India ended up with 101 medals and were ranked 2nd in the rankings, their best ever finish in the competition.
