Personal Life

Kiran Pahal hails from the humble village of Ganaur in the Sonepat district of Haryana. She grew up in a financially struggling family, with her father, Om Prakash, serving as the sole breadwinner until his passing in 2022 after a prolonged illness.

Her mother, Maya Devi, worked hard to support the family, but the economic challenges were significant. Despite these hardships, Kiran was determined to pursue athletics, facing societal opposition along the way.

She has received support from senior athlete Hima Das, which has been instrumental in her journey as an athlete. Notably, Pahal currently trains without any sponsors, relying solely on her determination and the guidance of her coach, Akaash Chikara.

Athletic Career

Kiran's athletic journey has been marked by significant achievements and challenges. Just a month after her father's death, she won the 400m gold at the Inter-State Athletics in 2022 with a time of 51.84 seconds.

Her recent performance in Panchkula showcased her talent as she finished well ahead of her competitors, with the second-place finisher clocking 53.44 seconds.

Kiran's last competition before this championship was eight months prior, where she recorded a time of 56.03 seconds, highlighting her remarkable comeback after battling a persistent hamstring injury.

She made a significant mark in her athletic career, recently achieving a personal best of 50.92 seconds in the 400m during the semifinals of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula on June 27, 2024.

This time not only surpassed the Olympic qualification mark of 50.95 seconds but also made her the first Indian female quartermiler to qualify for the Olympics since Nirmal Sheoran in 2016.

Throughout her career, Kiran has participated in national camps but faced disruptions due to injuries and financial constraints. She is currently coached by Ashish Singh Chhikara, following a previous coaching stint with Rohtas Siwach, who had a controversial past.

Despite the challenges, Kiran remains focused on her training and aims to excel in future competitions, including the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
