Nishant, a native of the Karnal district in Haryana, began his boxing career in 2012, inspired by his uncle, a professional boxer. He trained under the guidance of coach Surender Chauhan at the Karan stadium. His father played a significant role in his early training, waking him up at 4 AM for training and accompanying him again in the evening to ensure he was on track.
In his first international competition at the Elite World Boxing Championship in 2021, Nishant Dev made a splash by advancing to the quarterfinals, showcasing the extent of his skills. He outdid his previous performance at the 2023 IBA Men's World Boxing Championships by securing a bronze medal. The 22-year-old demonstrated his prowess with three unanimous wins and one win by referee halted combat.
In 2021, he conquered the National Championships snagging a gold medal and securing an opportunity to represent India at the World Championships. His fearless style of boxing piqued interest, effortlessly defeating Hungary's nine-time National Champion, Laszlo Kozak, and the two-time Olympian from Mauritius, Merven Clair.
A dislocated right shoulder from a 2010 fall caused him problems at the start of 2022 due to an infection in the rod inserted during surgery. Although he had to undergo another surgery and a long period of rehabilitation, he remained determined and came roaring back by winning the Gold medal in the National Boxing Championship.
