Parul Chaudhary's Personal Life

Parul Chaudhary hails from Meerut and belongs to the Jhajj gotra. She was not initially inclined towards athletics; her journey began when her father encouraged her to participate in a school race without any prior preparation.

During her school years, she often ran barefoot and took part in the 800 meters race in 2011. Parul has a sister, Preeti, with whom she trained and competed, often leading to a friendly rivalry as they both won medals.

Her mother recalls that Parul was quite chubby as a child, but running helped her get fit. Despite facing sexist comments from neighbors during her training, her family remained supportive.

She has faced societal pressures regarding women's participation in sports, particularly in her village, where traditional views often discourage girls from wearing shorts and engaging in athletics.

Initially, her aim was to secure a government job and leave sports behind, but her success in athletics changed her perspective. After moving to Mumbai in 2015, she worked as a ticket examiner for Western Railways, which provided her with financial stability while she pursued her athletic career.

Parul Chaudhary's Athletic Career

Parul's athletic career took off after her initial participation in the 800 meters, leading her to compete in longer distances such as the 1500 meters and 3000 meters before settling on the 5000 meters.

She has achieved significant milestones, including a personal best of 15:36.03 in the 5000 meters at the Asian Athletics Championship in 2019 and a record-breaking time of 9:15.31 in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023.

This performance not only set a national record but also qualified her for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Parul has been a five-time national champion and has consistently ranked among the top athletes in Asian Championships.
