Roshibina Devi created history for India at the Asian Games 2026, securing the Silver medal at Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday (September 24).

She settled for silver after losing the final to Chinese opponent Zhang Xiaoyu, but became the first Indian to win a medal in three consecutive editions of the Asian Games.

Who is Roshibina Devi?

Naorem Roshibina Devi is one of India's leading Wushu athletes and a specialist in the women's 60kg Sanda category. Born on December 30, 2000, in Kwaksiphai Mayai Leikai in Manipur's Bishnupur district, Roshibina grew up in a family connected to farming and developed an interest in Wushu at a very young age.

Roshibina's journey began after she watched Wushu at a district competition and immediately developed a passion for the combat sport. As a child, she even made an improvised punching bag at home using old clothes. She later received formal training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Imphal.

Her breakthrough came at the 2016 World Junior Wushu Championships, where she won bronze. She subsequently established herself at senior level, winning bronze in the 60kg Sanda event at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. She went on to win gold at the 2019 South Asian Games and continued her international success.

At the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, Roshibina improved her medal from bronze to silver, finishing runner-up in the 60kg Sanda category. She also won silver at the 2023 World Wushu Championships and gold at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship that year.
