India have a strong boxing contingent who will be gunning for glory in the Asian Games 2023 and future tournaments.
And one of the names to look out for is Sanjeet Kumar, a prominent pugilist who will be a big hope for the Indian boxing fraternity.

Sanjeet is part of India's 7-man men's team who will be fighting it out in the Asian Games across different weight categories.

Haryana's conveyor belt of boxers has produced another gem in Sanjeet, who came to prominence with a stunning Gold Medal in the Asian Championships in 2021.
His opponent in the final was none other than the decorated Vassiliy Levit of Kazakhstan, an Olympic silver medalist and five-time Asian Championships victor.
Sanjeet's triumph over such a tough contestant marked a high point in his boxing career. However, it was not the first time Sanjeet tackled formidable competition. In 2018, inspired by dual Olympic champion Vasyl Lomachenko, he overcame, Sanjar Tursunov, the Kazakh world champion bronze medalist, in the final round of the India Open International Boxing Championship in New Delhi.
Originally, Sanjeet was drawn to boxing by observing his brother's participation in the sport. His attraction was fueled further by the prospect of escaping academic rigor.
Initially, his parents disapproved his shift of focus from academics, but as Sanjeet began to gather victories at the state-level championships, they changed their stance and offered their support.
Like all sportspeople, injuries were an inevitable aspect of Sanjeet's career. In 2019, a bicep injury kept him out of the Tokyo Olympic qualifiers. Subsequently, during the 2021 World Championships, a shoulder injury sidelined him for an extended period.
He donned the Indian colors at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Sanjeet started the year 2023 on a high note by securing the silver at the men's Nationals. He is already preparing for the upcoming Asian Games with the expectation of reaching the podium, which is to be held in Hangzhou, China. His sights, meanwhile, are firmly set on fulfilling his Olympic ambition.
