By Farzan

Sarvesh Kushare was born on June 17, 1995, in Deogaon, a small village 70 km from Nashik, Maharashtra. He will make his Olympic debut in Paris Olympics 2024 this year.

Standing at around 180 cm, Sarvesh may be considered one of the shorter competitors in high jump events, but he faces these challenges head-on with unwavering determination.

Sarvesh Kushare

Throughout his career, Kushare has achieved notable milestones that have propelled him to success. Here is all you need to know about the Indian athlete competing in Paris 2024:

Early Life and Education

Sarvesh began his high jump training at a young age under the guidance of his high school trainer RW Jadhav. Despite training on makeshift landing pits filled with cattle feed and agricultural waste, his unwavering determination fueled his progress in the sport.

With Jadhav's constant support, Sarvesh achieved a height of 2.17m at a young age, leading to a job opportunity in the army. This achievement marked a pivotal moment in his career, setting him on a path of success with no looking back.

Athletics Career

In 2018, when he was 22 years old, Sarvesh set a new meet record by clearing a height of 2.24m, earning his first gold medal in high jump at the elite level during the National Open Athletics Championships in Odisha.

In October 2019, Sarvesh secured a gold medal with a jump of 2.26m at the Indian Open Championships in Ranchi, marking his international debut at the South Asian Championships. He consistently improved his personal best each year; after achieving a height of 2.17m in 2017, he reached an impressive 2.26m by 2019.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily interrupted his progress, Sarvesh made a strong comeback at the 2022 Indian National Championship in Gujarat, where he set a new personal best of 2.27m.

Following this achievement, he aimed even higher, targeting the national record of 2.30m instead of just 2.29m in his next jump. He came very close on his third attempt, but his trailing leg hit the bar, preventing him from breaking the national record held by Tejaswin Shankar.

In 2023, Sarvesh achieved notable success, including a silver medal with a jump of 2.26m at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, which earned him a spot at the World Championships.

Later that year, he represented India at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where he finished 11th in the qualification round of Group B and placed 20th overall among 33 competitors. He cleared 2.26m on his second attempt but was unable to clear 2.29m.
