Early Life

Tajinderpal hails from a family of farmers. As a child, Tajinderpal aspired to become a cricketer. However, fate had different plans for him. Recognizing his strong physique, his father and uncle Gurnam Singh, a former Indian shot put champion, encouraged him to pursue shot put instead.

Tajinderpal joined the Indian Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (PTI) under a sports quota program, which enabled him to train and compete internationally in shot put.

Personal Life

Tajinderpal is currently 29 years old and is married to Sandeep Dhillon Toor. His upbringing was marked by a strong familial bond, particularly with his father, who was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2015. Tajinderpal's father's health deteriorated over the years, and he expressed a deep desire to win medals for his father while he was still alive.

Tragically, shortly after winning a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, Tajinderpal received the news of his father's passing. He also mentioned that the only possession his father left him was a gun for security purposes on their farm, which he subsequently transferred to his name.

Additionally, Tajinderpal is known to be an avid dog lover, often sharing pictures of his pets on social media. He also has a tattoo of Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa on his left hand, symbolizing his heritage and pride.

Athletic Career

Tajinderpal's athletic career began to take shape when he started training under coach Mohinder Singh Dhillon in 2013. He achieved notable milestones, including a fifth-place finish at the World University Games in 2015 and a personal best throw of 20.40m at the Federation Cup in 2017.

His performance at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 was less than ideal, finishing eighth in the finals. However, he made a significant breakthrough in June 2021 by setting an national record of 21.49m at the Indian Grand Prix-4, which qualified him for the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite facing injuries, including a wrist fracture and a groin muscle pull, Tajinderpal has shown resilience and determination in his pursuit of excellence in shot put.
