Olympic Gold medalist Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem has publicly criticized the Pakistan government and sports authorities for failing to deliver on key promises made after his historic victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Nadeem made headlines with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, securing Pakistan's first Olympic gold in track and field. Following his win, he was lauded by officials and promised various rewards, including land allocations and cash prizes.

Speaking in an interview to Geo TV, Nadeem said: "Out of all the prize announcements made for me, all the plot announcements were fake, which I did not receive. Apart from that, I have received all the cash prizes that were announced."
He noted the gap between public announcements and actual delivery, explaining that while monetary rewards were eventually provided, the promised plots of land "existed only in official statements and never materialized."
Nadeem's comments have sparked debate online, highlighting the recurring challenges faced by athletes in Pakistan related to institutional support and accountability. He recalled the need for his local supporters to raise funds for his training early in his career due to a lack of formal backing. The javelin thrower also spoke about frequently training with substandard equipment.
Despite these challenges, Nadeem remains focused on his sporting career and mentoring young athletes. "My current priority is preparing for the upcoming World Championships," he said, adding that he will not allow unfulfilled promises to distract him.
Nadeem's candid remarks have renewed calls for better support structures and fulfillment of commitments made to athletes who bring global recognition to the country.
Nadeem bestowed India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra in the Olympics, who could only manage a Silver medal. The dynamic duo will come against each other for the first time since the Olympics in the Silesia Diamond League.
